The ST STEVAL-SPIN3202 development board wired to a BLDC motor
First prototype: the ST STEVAL-SPIN3202 development board driving a BLDC motor.

Overview

A brushless DC motor driver built for a client who needed a 48 V, 750 W drive. I prototyped the control on the STSPIN development board first, then designed my own hardware to meet the client's requirements.

What I built

  • 6-step commutation firmware on the STSPIN32F0A.
  • 20 kHz PWM, above the audible range, for silent motor operation.
  • Hall-sensor position tracking for commutation and position feedback.
  • Variable acceleration profiles and controlled deceleration for smooth, repeatable motor control.
  • RS485 communication with Modbus protocol support.
  • Custom hardware designed for the 48 V, 750 W power stage.
