Overview

Winding BLDC hub motors by hand is slow and inconsistent. This machine automates the whole process: it winds the motor hub with real-time 3-axis stepper control and sequences each winding pattern from a programmable G-code file.

What I built

  • Real-time motion control using quadrature encoder feedback.
  • Custom G-code interpreter for programmable winding sequences, which also runs the calibration sequence for multiple motor hubs.
  • Self-calibration logic that detects the motor hub slots automatically.
  • Smooth acceleration and deceleration profiles for precise winding control.
  • Touch interface and IoT support for remote monitoring.
  • Complete mechanical design, hardware integration and firmware, end to end.
